Abstract:
The article focuses on the image of the city of St. Petersburg as a symbol of the city of
contrasts. The article is based on the works of A. Pushkin, N. Gogol, N. Necrasov, F. Dostoevsky. The article reveals the symbolic details and pictures of urban life of literary heroes that determines their fate. The article reflects the author’s estimates of the Russian classics of the 19th century. The article reveals ambivalence relation towards of St. Petersburg as a symbol of world model in the imagination of writers and poets of the 19th century.
