Abstract:
The article analyzes the integration of contemporary French literature in the teaching of French as a foreign language, highlighting its formative, cultural, and linguistic value. In this approach, literature is not only a tool for language acquisition but also a gateway to understanding the cultural and social contexts of the studied language. The article compares the benefits of contemporary literature – characterized by modern language, relevant themes (identity, migration, technology), and openness to the broader Francophone world – with those of classical literature, which offers stylistic richness, cultural foundations, and universal themes. The study is based on examples from recent textbooks published in Moldova and France (including the Mon Alter Ego method), emphasizing the presence of references to contemporary and universal authors, as well as the inclusion of authentic literary excerpts. The conclusion underlines the need for a balance between classical and contemporary literature, tailored to the learners' profiles and oriented toward integrated, modern, and intercultural teaching. Thus, literature becomes an essential bridge between language and culture, facilitating the development of strong linguistic and cultural competences.
