Abstract:
The current situation in the world requires the introduction of the principle of tolerance in all areas of social life, especially in the political one as an element of democracy. The article "Tolerance as a Foundation of Democracy: Philosophical Approaches" addresses the issue of tolerance in the political field from a philosophical perspective. The idea of political tolerance has been researched in different historical periods by philosophers such as A. Augustin, T. d'Aquino, N. Machiavelli, J. Locke, I. Kant, M. Foucoult, K. Popper, V.S. Solovyov, N. Berdiaev, Jiang Zemin etc. Most researchers are of the opinion that of all political regimes, only the democratic regime is a regime of maximum tolerance, because it involves the realization of universal values, such as: freedom, equality, justice – values that express the concept of tolerance.
