Câteva considerații privind calofilia semidoctă în româna actuală

Abstract

In the following notes we will refer to semi-literate calophilia, which is a very frequent mistake in the current Romanian language that consists in the speaker's desire to express himself more carefully, more literary, more elevated, more pretentious and less banal. In this case, pretentious formulas are sought instead of simple ones, neologisms instead of old words. The substitution of older words with some neologisms does not only concern synonyms, it can also occur in the case of words that are etymologically related or from the same lexical family. Some words are created or borrowed that duplicate lexical units or expressions already existing in the language; other times words are subject, in the current language, to semantic restriction and expansion, the process being favored by the passage of terms from specialized languages into the common language and by the existence, in other languages, of some correspondents with richer meanings. Semi-scholarly calophilia is the tendency to give literary expression too much or too much attention.
