Abstract

Matei Vișniec's dramaturgy is a fascinating combination of absurd humor, farce and a profound commentary on social and political reality. His writings explore the conflicts between the individual and the system, often combining elements of farce with the representation of political violence, in order to reflect on the abuses of power, oppression and existential absurdity. On the one hand, farce captures the viewer's attention through the comic nature of the situation and the exaggeration of certain character traits, and on the other hand, through it the playwright denounces the absurdity and corruption of oppressive political regimes. Lucidly representing political violence in various forms, oppression and the way it manifests itself in everyday life, always having a strong political substratum, Vișniec presents his characters with a certain dose of bitter humor. And farce is a kind of mask for subtle or direct violence, which can be understood and accepted by the reader/viewer more easily through the prism of absurdity. All of these characteristics are exemplified by the plays analyzed in this article.
