Abstract

The article describes the need for and opportunities of digital transformation within the university library. This transformation has a comprehensive impact on the library’s operations, particularly influencing technological processes, the products and services offered, as well as communication with its users. As a complex and long-term process, digital transformation requires the establishment of clear principles, objectives, and methods for achieving key elements within university libraries. The initiative to develop a university-wide digital transformation strategy — involving all subdivisions, including the university library — will enable the definition of purpose, objectives, activities, and results with significant impact on the library’s functionality. The continuous development of digital competencies among both users and library staff remains essential and indispensable for achieving the proposed performance targets and indicators. The impact of the library’s digital transformation will be visible not only during the implementation of strategic objectives but also beyond, contributing to the transformation of the university library into a true hub for digital education in support of learning, research, and lifelong education.
