In the present article, we explore ideas that highlight the necessity and importance of a mentor in various contexts of personal life, educational settings, and professional practices. All dimensions of life are influenced by the presence of a mentor, who, on one hand, impacts and, on the other, facilitates personal, psycho-emotional, and professional growth. Both, personal and professional development engages the adult in a continuous learning process and a responsible journey of self-directed learning. We argue that, particularly at the beginning of their careers, educators require support, viewed as an investment in the quality of future education. Through effective mentoring, the mentor encourages the mentee to become an autonomous learner, fostering a desire to explore, understand, and discover new meanings. Self-directed learning becomes a cornerstone of effective mentoring, relying on the mentor's ability to spark curiosity, encourage active engagement in one's own development, and facilitate access to appropriate resources. |
