Explorarea identității etnice în rândul elevilor din învățământul primar

Abstract

The study analyzes the ethnic identity of primary school students, highlighting the role of family and school in developing this essential aspect of social identity. The research was based on a questionnaire applied to a sample of 102 fourth-grade students from rural areas (Brăila County), aiming to assess their knowledge of traditions, customs, and cultural symbols.The results show that a significant percentage of students do not understand the meaning of ethnic identity, and many cultural symbols, such as folk tales, legends, or traditional dances, are becoming less recognized. For example, 46% of students could not name a character from folk tales. However, there is an increased interest in the past, with 79% of students expressing a desire to learn more about their ancestors’ way of life. The study emphasizes the importance of education and family involvement in preserving ethnic identity, warning about the risk of losing cultural values. The conclusion highlights the need to strengthen the connection between the past and present through an education focused on respect, belonging, and cultural continuity.
