Promoting democratic values within the Religious Education curriculum plays a crucial role in shaping the moral and civic development of students. In a pluralistic society, religious education extends beyond the transmission of dogmatic knowledge, actively contributing to the cultivation of tolerance, mutual respect, and interfaith dialogue. Democratic values such as freedom, equality, and solidarity are essential for social cohesion and for preparing students to become responsible citizens. The Religious Education curriculum provides a suitable framework for fostering these values by emphasizing teachings related to love for others, social justice, and respect for diversity. By studying examples of saints, martyrs, or religious leaders who advocated for peace and mutual understanding, students internalize the core principles of democracy. Additionally, ethical debates, involvement in social projects, and collaboration with members of other religious communities help students appreciate cultural and religious diversity. Integrating democratic values into religious education helps prevent radicalization and intolerance, strengthening the sense of belonging to a global community. Students learn to express their views peacefully, accept differences, and actively contribute to the common good. In this way, Religious Education becomes not only a tool for spiritual development but also an important vector for democratic citizenship education. Thus, religious education, in synergy with democratic values, plays a vital role in shaping a future founded on respect, freedom, and responsibility, reinforcing the pillars of a harmonious and inclusive society. |
