Abstract

The present study aims to provide research data for making a profile of adolescents with low self esteem. The research capitalizes on the results of statistical analyses made after the administration of a questionnaire to a number of over 700 high school students in Romania. The present study was conducted for two statements from the self-esteem scale of Marshall B. Rosenberg: "Sometimes I think I'm worth nothing.", "Sometimes I think of myself as a loser" respectively. For the second statement, the data show that there are no statistically significant differences according to gender, residence environment, class to which the students belong, extension of the family, instead, for the first statement, there are statistically significant differences according to the class to which the students belong. More specifically, ninth graders have the lowest average of ranks on this statement, which shows that in their case there was the highest percentage of respondents who expressed total agreement with this statement. We can say that we have the possibility to meet both girls and boys with low self-esteem, both from urban and rural areas, only child or with several siblings.
