Abstract:
In this article, there is information regarding the history of two of the best and well-equipped cruisers of the naval fleet of the former Russian Empire, and then of the Soviet Union, which at different times bore the name "Cagul", being named in honor of the Cahul battle from 1770. Both cruisers were involved in the revolutionary events of the beginning of the XX-th century, as well as from the First World War and the Second World War. The officers and sailors of the respective ships showed devotion and courage in the battles. One of the ships was, for a while, the flagship of the Soviet military naval fleet in the Black Sea. In the whirlwind of events, their name was changed several times, but the historical memory also preserved the name "Cagul". The history of the commanders of the respective cruisers was tumultuous too, which is specific to the respective times.
