Modalități de combatere a analfabetismului funcțional în școala primară

Abstract

The author, in this article, outlines the notion of functional illiteracy which is manifested by students having difficulties in understanding and applying the information read or in developing readingwriting and calculation skills. The importance of early recognition of achievement issues in school is emphasized to ensure students' success in their educational journey. Thus, the causes that can lead to functional illiteracy are highlighted, for example socio-economic factors, lack of support from the family, health problems, excessive use of television, computer and telephone. The levels of cognitive performance as well as the positive practices of diminishing/combating the effects of functional illiteracy of western countries are presented. The author proposes some solutions to combat the effects of functional illiteracy in primary grades and emphasizes the fact that the joint effort of teachers, parents, the community and decision-makers can contribute to reducing the effects of functional illiteracy in primary grades and to supporting all students to achieve their maximum potential in terms of their education and development.
