Abstract:
Work, play and exercise have been used for their healing qualities since ancient times. In the Neolithic, empirical medicine developed certain therapeutic norms, based on practical experience, of combining drug treatment with therapeutic exercises. Physiotherapy begins thousands of years ago and merges with the history of various forms of occupations with therapeutic values within the historical development of mankind. Ancient civilizations, developed different philosophical concepts, different medical schools, highlighted the importance of physical therapy and medicinal plants, essential oils, aromatherapy, occupational therapy, in treating different diseases and maintaining health.The Egyptians, Indians, Chinese and Greeks laid the foundations of the notion of preventive and therapeutic gymnastics. The healing of the sick and the prevention of illnesses represented a social function and a moral right, which was constantly manifested on different stages of evolution of human civilization. Knowing the development of physical therapy, as a universal discipline, from its origins to the present day, contributes to the formation and development of the specialized culture. Nothing can be explained and understood without history.
