Abstract

The problem of self-image development in young students with visual impairment is one of the major challenges of special psychology and psychopedagogy. Self-image or "how we see ourselves" is defined by how we perceive our own physical, emotional, cognitive, social and spiritual characteristics that shape and reinforce the dimensions of our self. Self-image is associated with confidence, respect and self-esteem. It is particularly important that, starting from the age of 7, up to the age of 10, the child creates a positive self-image that will last a lifetime, based on the assessments made by parents, teachers and classmates. Visual impairment is a social disadvantage resulting from the loss or limitation of a person's chances, the impossibility to take part in the life of the community at the same level as other members.
