Abstract:
The paper aimsto describe various cultural waysin the Western and Balkan space, regarding stoicism versus lability and suffering, externalized and culturally valued in the face of serious health news. Illness reporting patterns are trans-generational and ethnically dictated. There are familially personalized lineages and socially and geographically imprinted lineages. We want to refer to the way of communicating bad news about the health of an individual, a group or a nation, with positive aspects and limits.
