Abstract:
The state of Romanian tourism was almost disastrous in 1989, despite the important tourist resources and existing real estate patrimony. In the new political regime installed after 1990 the free market economy started to show its presence into services. Private and then European-funded investments and public-private partnerships led to a more and more developed tourist infrastructure, especially after 2007, but not sufficiently stimulating the accessibility and professional marketing. On medium and long term, the principle of sustainability must ground the development of Romanian tourism in any initial project, from the transport infrastructure to the recreational infrastructure, in order not to destroy a heritage even before being valued.
