Abstract:
The expansion of the urbanization phenomenon within the Republic of Moldova is a reflection of the socio-economic evolution, based on natural, economic or in some cases political factors. Because the state is an agrarian, the evolution of urban settlements is quite difficult. In fact, the network of urban settlements was established only in the middle of the 20th century, succumbing considerably to the European states, thus today Moldova occupies the 41st place among the European states according to the degree of urbanization, concentrating in 2017 only 44% of the population in the urban localities, overtaking only Albania and Portugal.
