Abstract:
Systematic position of the small ungulate from the Early Vallesian fauna of Ukraine is discussed. Morphological comparison with representatives of Tragulidae, Moschidae, Bovidae, and Cervidae was carriedout. It isdemonstrated that the species does not belong to either Lagomeryx or Micromeryx genera. The presenceof “Palaeomeryx” fold on the teeth of this ruminant also distinguishes it from Bovidae. As a result, the fossil material of ukrainian ungulate of Late Miocene age (MN9) was identified as Hispanomeryx af . duriensis (?Moschidae). Lagomeryx flerovi from the Late Vallesian fauna of Moldova was also assigned to Hispanomeryx af. duriensis.
