Abstract:
In the present study, the Gini Index was used to analyze the process of urban concentration in the Republic of Moldova, because is recommended by several demographers and sociologists. Comparing the Gini Report obtained by applying this index to the categories of cities, it was identified the values - 0.589208 at the 2014 Census, compared to 0.680491 at the 1989 Census, therefore there was a trend of ”deconcentration” of the population in cities >100 thousand inhabitants and an increase in the concentration of urban population in cities <20 thousand inhabitants. These characteristics demonstrate that, in assessing the urban development prospects of the Republic of Moldova, such realities and trends must be considered.
