Abstract:
Samples of terrestrial gastropods were collected from dif erent lithostratigraphic levels of the loessoid deposits in the granite quarry at Cosăuți. Their composition and ecological characteristic demonstrate the climatic presence of two types of mollusc associations. The specific fauna for the warm climate is recovered from the Riss- Wurm interglacial soil and is distinguished by the presence of forest molluscs, having as a dominant form the species Helicigona banatica. The mollusc faunas indicative of the cold climate were collected from the loessoid layers and are composed mainly of species with increased ecological flexibility such as Pupilla, Vallonia, Succinea and sometimes boreal-alpine elements such as Columella columella and Vallonia tenuilabris.
