Abstract:
The teaching of subjects such as chemistry, biology, and physics at secondary level leads to the need to consciously change students’ perspective on comprehension difficulties. One of the steps is the involvement of students in the scientific activity in order to facilitate the learning process, building motivation, interest and curiosity toward a particular topic or common interest.
The theme in the proposed material started from finding an alternative treatment for very common respiratory conditions that affect school communities. The didactic model approached at chemistry classes uses traditional medicinal plants selected for pharmacological studies as motivation for learning the techniques of isolating constituents, the school curriculum for chemistry in gymnasium providing a distinct chapter on methods of separating components from mixtures at simple analytical level. On a popular level, the art of healing has laid the foundations of ethnomedicine.
Ethnomedicine was an inspiration to students and successfully combined modern learning based on scientific principles and methods with the traditional simple teaching of ancestors who built their existence on simple foundations in full communion and understanding with nature and followed educational models inspired by them.
