Abstract:
The long-term goal of studying history is to equip students with notions and
knowledge about the development of human society and its historical
development. Textbooks must form patriotic feelings for students, develop in
their consciousness a spirit of promoting national, european and universal
values. The textbook analysis provided by the Council of Europe reveals
multiple pressures on school history: political pressures, changing education
system, economic constraints, pedagogical styles, theories of learning and
also, especially in the case of history, public pressures. I believe that every
element of manipulation in history textbooks needs to be discussed, because
only in such a format would a balance of coordinated values be reached for
teaching the discipline.
