Abstract

At the end of the 19th century, the development of artistic and professional education for women began in Galicia due to many socio-cultural and economic factors. In the region where agriculture was dominant there were no specialized textile industry workers, which made it difficult to establish proper lacemaking enterprises. The development of lace depended on many factors, mostly connected with European fashion trends and transformations in socio-cultural life of the time. In the late 19th century, the Galician authorities addressed the issue of low level of professional education in the region, which meant that special education centers and specialist schools of lacework for women had to be established. An important role in the deve lopment of artistic and professional education of women in Galicia was played by exhibitions. The most famous centers of lace making education were in Bobova, Kanchuga, Zakopane, Javoriv, Lviv.
