Abstract:
At a distance of 12 km from the great Stefanian foundation of Neamț is the Secu monastery. This
chinovie also knew the hardships that fell on Moldova, but it defeated and remained with its strong
foundations deep in the roots and in the past of our people, related to many, rich and impressive events.
Through its walls pierced by ramparts, through the massive entrance tower, as well as through the
corner ones, through the elegance and fairness of the proportions of the church and other buildings that
make up its complex, Secu caught the attention of all visitors from its elevation until today. Between its walls,
rulers attacked by foreign armies found shelter, and learned and talented hierarchs like Metropolitan
Varlaam found here, in addition to the shelter, the framework conducive to creative work.
Secu Monastery, together with the other monuments in Neamț County shows once again the talent of
Romanian architects and painters from past centuries. The detailed knowledge of the artistically value and
the cultural role played by this important monument of the country is appreciated also as an honour brought
to all those who contributed to its elevation, lived in it and contributed to the development of culture and
original artistic creation of our people.
