Abstract:
The destinies, including the creative ones, of two of the most important writers of the 20th century, Mircea Eliade and Herman Hesse, have many affinities. What unites these two literary destinies? In the case of both, the impact with literature takes place in the fragile years of childhood, and the passion for the land of the Vedas and the Upanishads is attested in both writers’ works with the same intensity. The two creators even share the idea that the East is the cradle of all civilizations. In the case of both, the main sources of inspiration are the events of personal life, and cultural and religious syncretism is imposed by consistency and uniqueness in their thinking and work. One of the common aims of these two writers is to change the Western mentality by discovering and understanding the Eastern mentality.
