dc.description.abstract The evocation of the historical past is one of the program points present in all romantic manifestos. In Romanian literature, romanticism is felt through the writers of 1848, of which Vasile Alecsandri is a part. They capitalize on history not especially (or not only) for its picturesqueness, but for its patriotic resonance, in accordance with the directive of „Dacia literară”. Historical motifs occupy a special place in Alexandrian poetry and are valorized, especially in its legends, demonstrating a perfect harmony between the historical-documentary vein and folklore vein, both ingeniously passed through the fantasy and imagination of the author. For V. Alecsandri, national history is a source of inspiration that he often projects in myth. en_US
