Due to the omnipresence in all fields of folk art, aesthetic function and complexity of meanings, traditional ornamentation plays an essential role in preserving folklore. The purpose of this article is to present the most common folk ornaments one can encounter in myths, legends, tales, songs, folk traditions as well as traditional ornaments. Among them there are solar symbols, zoomorphic / avimorphic motifs (horse, cock, cuckoo, snake, peacock), social motifs (hora), but mostly fitomorphic motifs (fir tree, apple, hazelnut, peony, basil, rose, lily, poppies etc). From the perspective of folklore and ethnographic research of traditional ornamentation, these motifs are particularly frequent in the spiritual life of our people, because the former are invoked in different traditions of life cycles with predictive and premarital purposes, at the same time serving as apotropaic signs. |
