Abstract:
Acts of domestic violence are most difficult to detect because they occur in families - where the authorities can not intervene. Hence the perception authorities state that domestic violence is a private business and little can be done. The situation is complicated by the tolerant perception in society and even by victims. Thus, women in Moldova are generally embarrassed to talk about family abuse. This is because misinformation, lack of social services or because of generally perceptions accepted fact that violence is allowed to put women in their place, or that they're actually causing the violence.
