dc.description.abstract |
Literature is one of the most effective means of promoting the militant movements of the woman`s emancipation. Much of the 20th century literature deals with the subject of the women`s condition by illustrating the different types of female character. In this sense, significant is the novel The French Lieutenant`s lover, a testimony of a paradoxical John Fowles`s attitude: the sentimental attachment to the values of the Victorian Age, but also the (post)modernist rebellion against them. At the time, the author also expresses his plea for the woman`s emancipation in the 20th century. Sarah, the narrator`s spokesperson and Ernestine`s antipode, representing the emancipated woman in the economy of the novel. |
