dc.description.abstract The article touches upon the methodology of developing the students' pronunciation competence of the English back monophthong [u] in comparison with the Romanian one. The technology for the development of the pronunciation competence of the back monophthong forsees three stages of teaching-learning the pronunciation. For the efficient formation of the pronunciation competence a number of principles should be kept to such as: the principle of motivation; conscious learning; consecutiveness and others. Exercising/drilling is the main didactical-methodical unit for learning foreign languages. For this purpose, it is necessary to elaborate and use a system of exercises to correspond the objectives and stages of learning English. en_US
