Abstract:
In this article, we will discuss the moral mission of teachers, the assumption of responsibility, and how to make correct professional decisions. Anticipating the conceptual presentation, which is, in particular, a call for the development of morality and responsibility, we mention that educational staff have an increasingly complex moral mission, as professional responsibilities are constantly changing, particularly demanding, and often reconfigured, depending on societal expectations. This article refers to two interconnected aspects: the morality of teachers and the responsibility to make correct decisions in educational activity. Certainly, it is not possible to have a moral mission and be autonomous in decision-making without being moral and responsible both in professional activities and every day, even when no one is watching. More precisely, the moral mission of teachers is closely linked to professional values, which does not allow for selfishness, amorality, or immorality. In our view, the moral mission of teachers values autonomy in professional decision-making, serves as a reference model for students, as well as for the entire society. In this direction, the article contains some practical recommendations for novice teachers, synthesized based on research conducted in the period 2023-2024.
