Abstract:
At the suggestion of the World Health Organization, starting from the idea of personality development in accordance with the individual potential of each person, a group of prestigious researchers initiated in 1999 a project to classify the positive aspects of personality, grouped into six fundamental virtues. General-human virtues have crystallized in a socio-cultural context with the evolution of humanity, proving their undeniable contribution to the survival and progress of the species. Being abstract notions, virtues cannot be directly quantified, except through their relevant components – the strengths of personality. Although still little studied, they represent the basis of the inner resources of personality, which can be activated and developed to identify physical and mental vulnerabilities, overcome adversities, and better adapt to stress. Consequently, activating strengths increases psychological resilience, which in itself becomes an important resource that acts as a shield for the personality.
