Abstract:
One of the most important trends in modern language education in primary school is the orientation of the educational process towards the formation of the main features of the child's secondary linguistic personality in the process of learning a language and cultures in order to achieve intercultural understanding. In this sense, the concept of 'language learning' is gradually being replaced by the concept of 'language and culture teaching', which involves the development of the child's ability to participate effectively in real intercultural communication. A multicultural environment is an intercultural and interlinguistic space in which representatives of different languages and cultures interact, which requires the regulation of cultural and linguistic contacts. Especially in the last two decades, extensive international research and work has been carried out in the field of intercultural education, highlighting its major role in the context of a globalized, multicultural and interconnected world. Moreover, the role of intercultural education in language education was discussed and studied and its importance in the development of intercultural competences of citizens was recognized. Aware of this situation, the guidelines of intercultural education, especially in Europe, have encouraged the implementation of educational policies in this regard. However, despite these guidelines and recommendations, there is still a lack of awareness and knowledge on the part of language teachers and other stakeholders in education.
