Abstract:
An important dimension of daily life in interwar Bessarabia was the development of education. The return of Bessarabia to the Romanian nation in 1918 ensured a true national and spiritual rebirth of Bessarabian Romanians throughout the entire period up to 1940. Namely, in 1918-1940, a real national intelligentsia was established here. For the first time in the history of this land, the forces of Romanian spirituality, the vast cultural, national, human and social accumulations of the nation materialized in a qualitative leap, which occurred in the interwar period. In the article, some aspects related to the field of literacy and raising the level of reading in Bessarabia will be investigated, as a premise for the modernization of daily life in the land, which was certainly one of the most successful achievements of the Romanian state in the historical province of Prut, despite some obstacles and stereotypes characteristic of the native population in the countryside.
