Abstract:
Nichita Smochină is one of the illustrious personalities of the 20th century born in the Transnistrian region. He established himself as one of the polyvalent figures of Romanian culture through his activity in various fields such as history, ethnography, folkloristics, anthropology, sociology and, of course, jurisprudence. During his life, he manifested himself as one of the most important lawyers who fought for the rights of the Transnistrian Romanians. For his special merits, he was elected in 1942 Honorary Member of the Romanian Academy. His memoirs appeared posthumously and represent the most important of the writings he bequeathed to us.
